Michonze painted mainly in oils with a minimum of matter, in thin layers, with no thickening-out. He painted on canvas, on smooth panels or on paper, laid on canvas or panels. The initial drawing shows through the light coat of paint. He did not model : depth was given by highlighting. He nearly always varnished, except in the case of gouache. Matt appeared for some time in 1962-63, and then was dominant in the seventies and eighties.
